John Nemanic has experience in the Canadian
financial industry through past employment with
Motorola, Bank of Nova Scotia, KPMG Chartered
Accountants and Parkview-BC/McLean Ltd. John decided
that there was a greater challenge in
entrepreneurial business than in corporate finance,
and in 1992, teamed up with Bill and Colin Campbell
to develop MegaChoice Software, a chain of retail
software stores. The partners decided to restructure
MegaChoice, ultimately creating I.D. Internet Direct
Ltd., which became the largest publicly traded,
independent Internet Service Provider in Canada.
John Nemanic was then appointed as President, CEO
and Director of I.D. Internet Direct Ltd. In 1998,
Internet Direct was named as the 7th fastest growing
company in Canada per Profit Magazine. In November
1999, I.D. Direct Ltd. was amalgamated with a
privately held company to form Look Communications,
a national wireless broadband and digital cable
provider.
In 1996, the partners purchased
www.tucows.com, a popular Internet
software site, ultimately forming TUCOWS Interactive
Inc. The company proceeded to win many prestigious
awards, including 2 consecutive Etobicoke Chamber of
Commerce awards, 1 Fast 55 award, 2 CATA (Canadian
Association for Technology Advancement) awards, and
other notable achievements. Tucows was also named by
FAST 50 as the 2nd fastest growing technology
company 1999, and 3rd fastest growing company in
Canada per Profit Magazine and Canadian Business for
1999. Tucows is now a public entity, trading on the
Toronto and American Stock Exchanges.
John was also a finalist in the Entrepreneur of
the Year awards in 1998, as recognition for his
accomplishments as President and CEO of TUCOWS. In
May of 1999, a majority of TUCOWS Interactive Inc.
was sold to the Steinmetz group and partners, and
John moved onto a new entrepreneurial venture -
Hostopia.com.
After
investing in
Hostopia, John Nemanic was nominated and
assumed the role of Chairman and CEO of Hostopia. In
July of 2000, John relinquished the role of CEO to
William Campbell, in recognition of Bill's superior
abilities and very close fit for the role of CEO.
Despite the dotcom crash of 2000-2002,
Hostopia proceeded to rapidly grow and
thrive, building a roster of Class 'A' customers
that are household names in the US and Canada. From
2000 to 2005,
Hostopia received many awards in
recognition of the firm's superior technical prowess
and focus on meeting customer needs, including
placing First, as the fastest growing company in
Canada, 2000-2005, per Profit Magazine.
In November of 2006, Hostopia completed an
Initial Public Offering, trading on the Senior
Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol, H (TSX:
H). After exercise of the overallotment by
underwriters, Hostopia raised gross proceeds of
approximately $29 million dollars.
